It is hoped to open in 2028. <\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;Catherine Brunaud-Rhyn, vice-president of the d\u00e9partement, says: &#8220;This project for the first museum on wartime captivity in liberated Europe is exceptional.<br\/>On Friday December 12, the d\u00e9partement council officially launched the museum project at Foucarville, on the site where more than 100,000 German prisoners were held between June 1944 and early 1947.<br\/><\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" style=\"font-size:20px\">&#8220;A story that very few people know&#8221;.<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In 2021, the Warren J. Kennedy Foundation (the camp&#8217;s American lieutenant-colonel commandant) was created. It will safeguard all archival donations made by the daughter of Warren J. Kennedy, as well as by the children of German prisoners.<br\/>Last May, the Comit\u00e9 du D\u00e9barquement revealed the sketches of this museum. &#8220;Jean Qu\u00e9tier, president of the Comit\u00e9 du D\u00e9barquement, explained at the time: &#8220;A history that very few people know about, and a site where nothing remains.  <\/p>\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote has-background\" style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-right:0px;margin-bottom:0px;margin-left:0px;padding-top:0;padding-right:0;padding-bottom:0;padding-left:0;font-size:40px;background-image:url(&apos;https:\/\/museum-dascamp.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/Guillements.jpg&apos;);background-position:50% 50%;background-repeat:no-repeat;background-size:contain;\"><blockquote><p><strong><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-black-color\">&#8220;This museum reveals another facet of the D-Day landings. &#8220;<\/mark><\/strong><br\/><\/p><\/blockquote><\/figure>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-right wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Philippe Gosselin, Member of Parliament<\/em><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We&#8217;re not talking about yet another museum,&#8221; warns Maryse Le Goff, departmental councillor for the canton of Carentan. It will be a different kind of museum. It is intended as a &#8220;mediation tool&#8221;, &#8220;weaving links with the present&#8221;.<br\/>The project includes a 1,370 m\u00b2 building on a 1.3 ha site, located between the town of Ravenoville and the former Foucarville camp. A memorial garden symbolizing the camp will also be created. <br\/>The budget, estimated at eleven million euros, is half funded by Europe. The D\u00e9par- tement and the R\u00e9gion will each contribute \u20ac200,000 in subsidies.
