The aim was to pay tribute to the American paratroopers who liberated the village on June 6, 1944. Over the years, thanks to donations and the financial resources of the association, the museum has expanded and been renovated, and today houses 5 pavilions in a park that is a veritable open-air museum covering almost 2 hectares. These pavilions offer a chronological tour focusing on the birth of American airborne troops, their battles before, during and after Normandy, and the epic story of military gliders and the fighters they carried. The museum also evokes the period of German occupation and its consequences for the local population, as well as the Liberation between joy and death, and the effects of the Liberation battles on the population.    <\/p><p>The Airborne Museum is the<sup>3rd<\/sup> most visited museum of the Second World War in Normandy, and one of the TOP10 in France.<\/p><p>The Airborne Museum has been involved in the captivity museum project from the outset:<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\"> <\/span><\/p><ul><li>It housed the first temporary exhibition on the Foucarville prison camp.<\/li><li>He is a founding member of the Warren Kennedy Foundation, which received the archives of the camp commander&#8217;s daughter, and contributed financially to its creation,<\/li><li>It is a founding member of the Warren J. It was created by the Elys\u00e9e Treaty in 1963. The OFAJ&#8217;s mission is to encourage relations between young people in the two countries, to strengthen their understanding and, in so doing, to promote the development of <span style=\"text-align: var(--text-align);\">representations of the neighboring country.<\/span>  <\/p><p>The OFAJ supports exchanges and projects for young people in France and Germany in a variety of ways: school and university exchanges, language courses, twinning of local businesses, etc.<\/p><p>cities and regions, sports and cultural events, internships and professional exchanges, travel grants and research projects. For several years now, it has been expanding its activities <\/p><p>to Eastern European and Mediterranean countries, thanks to special funds from the French and German Ministries of Foreign Affairs.<\/p><p>The OFAJ operates according to the principle of subsidiarity, with numerous partners and project sponsors. Its main objectives are to : <\/p><ul><li>strengthen Franco-German cooperation and mutual understanding at all levels<\/li><li>company levels<\/li><li>transferring skills for Europe<\/li><li>stimulate interest in the partner&#8217;s language<\/li><li>promote intercultural learning, both in personal and professional life<\/li><li>transmit to third countries the experience of Franco-German exchanges and the<\/li><li>reconciliation<\/li><\/ul><p> <\/p><p>Since 1963, the OFAJ has enabled almost 9.5 million young people to take part in over 382,000 exchange programs. These projects concern the following departments: Finist\u00e8re, Morbihan, C\u00f4tes-d&#8217;Armor, Ille-et-Vilaine, Mayenne, Sarthe, Maine-et-Loire, Loire-Atlantique, Vend\u00e9e, Manche, Orne and Calvados, including the towns of Bayeux, Caen, Deauville, Grandcamp-Maisy, Ouistreham and Port-en-Bessin. <br><br>The Foundation&#8217;s areas of intervention include inclusion, culture and heritage, as well as the preservation of the environment, biodiversity and climate. Throughout the year, associations are invited to submit their requests for support via the dedicated website. Departmental committees, made up of members and Bank employees, meet twice a year to select the projects to be funded.<br>The Foundation also supports the scientific initiatives of public research scientists in the Grand Ouest region. In this respect, a committee of experts meets every year to identify innovative research projects that are part of a value-added approach.   <br><br>The Endowment Fund set up by the Fondation Banque Populaire et Cr\u00e9dit Maritime Grand Ouest is designed to provide financial support for public-interest associations working in and for the region in areas such as inclusion, solidarity, culture, the environment, biodiversity and climate. The Fund uses a unique fund-raising mechanism, called X3, which brings together an association, a company and the Banque Populaire Grand Ouest Foundation. With nearly 15 million photographs and 100,000 hours of film, ECPAD preserves archives documenting the contemporary conflicts in which the French armed forces have taken part, from the First World War to the present day. These archives are constantly enriched by the work of military reporters, contributions from defense organizations and private donations.  <\/p><p>ECPAD places its camera operators &#8211; the &#8220;soldiers of the image&#8221; &#8211; at the disposal of the Armed Forces General Staff to monitor armed forces operations at home and abroad. It also produces all types of audiovisual productions for the Ministry. It collects, preserves, and provides scholarly access to unpublished autobiographical writings \u2013 diaries, memoirs, and letters \u2013 from private individuals across the German-speaking world. As of 2025, the collection comprises more than 28,000 documents written by over 5,500 authors, ranging from the eighteenth century to the present. A small museum, opened in 2014, offers curated insight into extracts from this unique body of sources.   <\/p><p>DTA operates as a citizen-science initiative, relying heavily on the voluntary commitment of its members and supporters. It is funded through membership fees, private donations, and public grants. Since 2019, DTA has been officially recognized as a \u201ccultural monument of particular importance\u201d in the Baden-W\u00fcrttemberg register of protected sites. As a founding member of the European Ego-Documents Archives and Collections (EDAC) network, it collaborates closely with partner institutions across Europe to promote and explore the historical value of autobiographical sources.  <\/p><p>Since 2016, DTA has participated in MUCAP. DTA loaned the diary of Anton Riediger (1899\u20131959) for the inaugural exhibition at the Airborne Museum in Sainte-M\u00e8re-\u00c9glise. Riediger began writing his diary in 1945 while interned in the American POW camp Continental Prisoner of War Enclosure No.\u202f19 in Foucarville. Its collections include documents relating to the captivity of German soldiers, especially in camps run by the Western Allies, as well as records concerning Allied soldiers held as prisoners of war in Germany. Each year, the Federal Archives receives tens of thousands of research inquiries from scholars and private individuals.
